About the Role

The Platform Engineer will be instrumental in onboarding teams to our platform and executing our platform strategy. This hands-on role places a strong emphasis on supporting our internal customers, requiring expertise in Linux-centric platform engineering as well as the ability to clearly communicate architecture through diagrams and documentation.

The primary aim of this role is to facilitate faster and more efficient application development, improving developer productivity and enhancing the overall platform experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Platform Development: Define and enhance core platform capabilities, focusing on self-service, observability, security policies, and reducing cognitive load.
• Incident Management: Participate in the on-call rota, ensuring timely resolution of incidents and minimising unnecessary alerts.
• Cloud Infrastructure: Design and manage AWS infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform.
• Kubernetes Management: Maintain EKS Kubernetes clusters, aiming for streamlined configurations.
• Security and Network Policy: Implement policies that make best practices easy for users and prevent unauthorised actions.
• Automation and Monitoring: Automate routine tasks and monitor system health.
• Documentation: Create and maintain templates, tests, runbooks, and documentation.

About You

• A Bachelor’s degree in a STEM subject is advantageous, but relevant industry experience is equally valuable.
• Background in platform engineering and/or DevOps, with substantial experience in AWS and Kubernetes.
• Proficient in Python, our preferred platform language.
• Strong familiarity with Linux command-line tools and scripting.
• Proven experience in building and maturing platform networking and security capabilities.
• AWS certifications (such as Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer) are beneficial but not required.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
